Skuggi Hotel is a three star hotel

Timeless comfort and a warm welcome in the heart of the city. The best of Reykjavik is seconds away, as clean design, great service and an outstanding location deliver all you need for a happy stay.

The concept

The Photographs

Ragnar
Axelsson

The raw aesthetic at Skuggi Hotel takes inspiration from the critically acclaimed work of Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson. His black and white photos of Iceland and Icelanders capture the essence of the people and the landscape in stark and striking images.

The place to be

Old and new

Skuggi Hotel has a location that’s hard to beat. On one hand, it’s just a short walk to the main shopping area of Laugavegur, one long stretch of classic shops and places to eat and drink. On the other, the hotel sits on Hverfisgata, a once-quiet street that’s been called the new cool quarter of town. Take a wander and discover a whole range of new bars, restaurants, and an arthouse cinema.

The first stop for foodies

Hlemmur
and more

A big part of the area’s new vibrancy is the renovation of the old bus terminal at Hlemmur. Just a few paces away from Skuggi, it has been transformed into a buzzing food hall – a self-styled ‘first stop for foodies’. Icelandic lamb rubs shoulders with authentic Vietnamese street food, South American tacos, Italian gelato and more, in a fun and informal setting. No ticket required.

The Rooms

Neighbourhood

Just steps away from the city’s main street, on one of downtown’s up-and-coming new stretches, all the good stuff, like Hlemmur Food Hall, Laugavegur shopping street, and Hallgrimskirkja, is close at hand.

Hlemmur Mathöll

This food hall in a converted bus station makes finding the bite you want easy as pie. Informal seating and a range of pop-up food bars offer a fun setting for a food experience that reaches around the world.

Ásmundarsalur

If art and coffee are your thing, then this gallery is for you. A beautiful building that houses a range of exhibitions to stimulate and inspire, you’ll also find an excellent ground floor cafe where coffee-making is a craft in itself.

The Sun Voyager

The Sun Voyager is a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, just a few minutes walk from our hotel. Sun Voyager is described as a dreamboat, or an ode to the sun. The artist intended it to convey the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.
